Most small business owners think of a website as a one-time project. Build it, launch it, done. But a website that brings in customers is more like a shop front: it needs to be kept open, clean and working.
What goes wrong without maintenance
- Forms stop sending. A setting changes, an email provider updates, and quote requests quietly stop arriving. You never find out, because nobody tells you about messages you did not get.
- Security problems. Out-of-date software is the most common way small business sites get hacked. Many hacked sites run WordPress with an old plugin.
- "Not secure" warnings. If the security certificate (the padlock) is not renewed, browsers warn visitors away.
- Expired domains. Miss a renewal and your site and email can go offline.
- Old information. Wrong hours, old prices or a closed location cost you trust and customers.
- Slipping on Google. Competitors keep improving their sites. If yours stands still, it slowly drops.
What a good care plan should include
- Hosting that is fast and reliable
- Security updates and monitoring
- Daily backups you can restore from
- Regular tests that your contact and quote forms still deliver
- Domain, padlock and email renewals handled for you
- A monthly report: visitors, where they came from, calls and form leads
- Changes done for you when you email
- Your Google and Maps details kept current
Can I just host it myself for free?
You can. Free or cheap hosting keeps the files online. It does not install security fixes, test your forms, renew your domain, back up your site or tell you who visited. If you are happy to do those yourself, self-hosting works. If not, a care plan is usually cheaper than the customers you lose when something breaks.
How we do it
At TruHint, care is $29 a month for sites up to 5 pages and included in our Growth and Pro plans. We build without WordPress, plugins or a database, so there is far less to break in the first place. On Growth and Pro we also work on your SEO every month.
